It is truly amazing, and so heart-warming, how our little friends live everyday right on the edge of survival. This is a very well-written article, the video is icing on the cake!

Thanks for this information. After watching these guys for years, I now know a lot more about them! And their color makes them fun to photograph! Along with the Lesser Finch.

Today I was reminded of this Northern Mockingbird series I shot at a friends house back in July 2011. The nest was destroyed before they were able to mature and fly, I suspect the cat, Charlie, was the culprit. This also reminded me of a previous question about the settings for backyard birds as opposed to eagles. I use the same but the smaller birds are so hard to track with a long lens.

This is a beautiful writing, so informative and an all-inclusive overview of the Northern Mockingbird, one we often take for granted as we rush through our busy days, but if one stops to observe and listen, they will soon find just how amazing this bird is. I met a biologist at Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge a few years ago who talked about sitting on his porch around 2:00 or 3:00 AM on a sleepless night and counted no less than 22 or 23 different calls (bird imitations) from one Northern Mockingbird. Truly an amazing feat!

Very lovely photos too!
